Louis Tomlinson - Lemonade

Louis Tomlinson has dropped “Lemonade”, the lead single from his upcoming third studio album How Did I Get Here?, out January 23.

Honestly, he hasn’t sounded this fun in a while. The opening is confident and punchy, driven by sharp guitars and an energy that instantly pulls you in. It’s upbeat, full of good vibes, and honestly feels like the perfect summer soundtrack. So yeah, a question does come up: “Mr. Tomlinson, are you aware autumn has just started?”

Unfortunately, the track doesn’t manage to keep that momentum for its entire duration. After the punchy opening, some of that spark fades away, and it becomes a bit too predictable and not as exciting as I could’ve hoped for. Still, thanks to its tight structure, short runtime, and solid groove, I’d say this is his best lead single yet out of the three he’s released in his career.

That doesn’t mean it’s flawless. The chorus — “She’s so bitter, she’s so sweet / Lemonade, lemonade” — come on, Louis, you can do better. At least make it more inventive and less on the nose, even if we’re talking about water with lemon juice, which is simple by nature — especially since it’s not really about lemonade in the end; she’s definitely not that simple. But aside from that, “Lemonade” is a very radio-friendly track with a pleasant pop-rock vibe. It doesn’t leave any bad aftertaste and actually makes you curious for what’s next.
