Miley Cyrus - Secrets feat. Lindsey Buckingham & Mick Fleetwood

Miley Cyrus Review Secrets Single Lindsey Buckingham & Mick Fleetwood

There are not many things in this world I value unconditionally, but two of them are definitely Miley Cyrus and Fleetwood Mac.

Miley’s new single “Secrets”, from the deluxe edition of Something Beautiful, is another step in her ongoing connection with Fleetwood Mac. Miley has already worked in this territory before — remember her remix of Midnight Sky with Stevie Nicks, where Nicks even recorded new lines for the track. Now she goes further and brings in Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood, which means she has managed to gather every possible member of Fleetwood Mac in her discography. Good for you, girl.

As for the song itself, Secrets carries clear traces of Fleetwood Mac’s influence. It’s simple, light, yet piercing in its emotional core — exactly the kind of accessible but deeply touching songwriting that defined the band’s greatest work. Buckingham and Fleetwood sound unmistakably like themselves, adding a feather-light, airy instrumental backdrop that recalls the optimistic, mid-tempo ballads of the 1980s. There’s even a “songbird” mentioned in the lyrics (Christine McVie, we love you, we remember you).

But the heart of the track is, of course, Miley. She keeps working on her lyrics, making them straightforward but more and more touching. “Secrets” may be about love, but not in the conventional pop sense. Instead, it explores love as an act of letting go — the willingness to resist possessiveness, to embrace freedom and vulnerability in equal measure. It’s about the moral dilemmas of closeness: wanting to hold someone completely, but choosing instead to give them space.

Miley has shared that the song is dedicated to her father and the difficult family dynamics the Cyrus family has faced in recent years. In that sense, “Secrets” also becomes a story of love beyond romance — the kind of love where trust and openness matter most, where real intimacy means being able to share the darkest, most painful truths.

Vocally, Miley is at her best when she sounds raw, without too much polish. On “Secrets”, she lets that side show. Her delivery of “I want to be the one” line has a crack in it that feels real and honest. The whole song carries that mix — maybe a bit naive at times, maybe even too light, but still touching.

And come on — Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham guesting on a 2025 Miley Cyrus track? If that isn’t something beautiful, what is?
