Power Snatch - EP2

Did you watch the solar eclipse on August 12, 2026? Because Hayley Williams and Daniel James obviously did.

Released on the day of the solar eclipse over Europe, EP2 is the second mini-project from Power Snatch, the duo formed by Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams and her collaborator Daniel James. And new music from Hayley Williams is always a reason to celebrate because, well, can’t she just miss once for the shits and giggles?

Their first EP, EP1, came out in February and consisted of just three songs. While those tracks were pretty enjoyable and slightly outside the usual Hayley Williams musical territory, they also felt a little clueless and messy, without saying anything particularly interesting and often sounding fairly straightforward.

EP2 is a little different. These songs feel like the daughters or nieces of Hayley Williams’ last solo album, Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party. Sonically, we get a more trip-hop-infused indie-rock treatment, with some pretty unexpected vocal production choices. And somehow, it all feels much more cohesive and genuinely interesting.

The absolute highlights are the first two tracks, “Machete” and “New Legs”. Overall, EP2 simply has more substance. These are four full-length, three-plus-minute songs, each different from the other, interesting and entertaining enough to work even on their own. The deep, rich bass and the distortion on “Born Dead” are good reminders of a dirtier sound that suits Hayley very well.

EP2 also feels less simple than EP1. There are more references and those beautiful little lines that actually mean something — exactly the kind of thing we love Hayley Williams for.

After hearing EP2, I definitely wouldn’t mind getting something more substantial from Power Snatch, perhaps even a full-length album. For now, though, this is a pretty damn good step forward.
