Beabadoobee - All I Did Was Dream Of You (feat. The Marías)
Beabadoobee goes shoegaze on her first single from an upcoming album.
For Beabadoobee, no genre seems out of reach. Although her fairly extensive discography is usually labeled as “indie” or “alternative,” it actually holds far more stylistic variety than those tags suggest. Just consider the delicate dream-pop atmosphere of her 2022 album Beatopia, or the much more rock-driven record This Is How Tomorrow Moves released in 2024. At first glance, it may seem that she is comfortable staying within the familiar boundaries of mainstream indie, yet the artist herself appears to gravitate toward a heavier and more unpolished sound.
The first single from the Filipino artist’s upcoming fourth album, “All I Did Was Dream Of You”, recorded with American dream-pop band The Marías, signals a new chapter in Beabadoobee’s creative evolution. It’s a stunning track that blends the finest elements of shoegaze and slacker rock, with both performers delivering remarkable vocal performances.
María’s subdued parts feel mysterious and almost hypnotic, while Bea offers some of the strongest vocal moments of her career, building toward an explosive final chorus accompanied by hazy guitars and lush atmospheric synths.
Lyrically, the song also features some of Bea’s most compelling songwriting to date. It’s a dreamy reflection on intimacy in relationships, vividly painting scenes where the most personal moments unfold consistently and effortlessly in the listener’s imagination.
Beabadoobee’s fourth studio album already promises to be intriguing. In addition to her collaboration with The Marías, the singer has also shared studio photos with Hayley Williams. Her artistic potential continues to grow, and hearing a new full-length release this year from one of the leading alternative artists of 2020s will be exciting at the very least.
